Ask AI as a step or a chip

Some jobs are easier to describe than to write a rule for: shorten this, turn these notes into a sentence, pull out the tasks. That is what the prompt step is for.

As a chip in a note

Press ⌘I, or tap Ask AI in the chip row. A bar opens under the text. Write the instruction, press ⏎, and the answer replaces the note or the selection in one undo step.

As a step in your own chip

In the transformation editor, add an AI prompt step. It sits in the chain like any other: clean the text with a built-in, run your regex, hand the result to the prompt. The whole thing stays one chip with one tap.

What to know

• It runs on the Mac, on Apple's on-device model. Nothing is uploaded and there is no key to enter.
• It needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on. Without that the chip explains why instead of failing quietly.
• About 8 000 characters per run.
• A prompt is the only step that does not answer the same way twice. For exact work, stay with regex and the built-ins.
